Shatta Wale could be jailed 3 years if convicted – Lawyer

Published

on

Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, could be sentenced to a three-year maximum jail term if convicted by a court of competent jurisdiction.

He may, however, be cautioned or fined and released if the judge is to pronounce a more lenient punishment for him on the charges brought against him by the police.

A private legal practitioner, Yaw Oppong, made this known on Citi TV’s Point of View on Wednesday.

He indicated that the charges of publication of false news and causing fear and panic brought against Shatta Wale and two of his associates is a misdemeanour which attracts more lenient sanctions as compared to a felony.

“This is a misdemeanour… A felony is a very serious offence and normally the punishment goes beyond 10 years, but a misdemeanour can be a caution and barely up to three years imprisonment. Normally the maximum punishment is about 3 years. It could also be a caution, and it could even be a fine,” Yaw Oppong explained.

Explaining the conditions under which Shatta Wale can be convicted, Yaw Oppong said the laws against the publication of fake news stipulates that the accused person must have first been aware or should have been aware that the information published was false.

Again, the publication put out by the accused person must have caused fear and panic in the public.

“It should cause fear and alarm to the public. The publication must be false and also the person making the publication ought to have known, or had reason to believe, that the statement or rumour or the report is false.”

Shatta Wale is expected to make his first court appearance today, Thursday, October 21, 2021, together with his two associates to answer to the charges levelled against him.

The dancehall artiste was arrested by police on Tuesday night after putting out false claims that he had been shot.

Prior to his arrest on Tuesday, he had in a lengthy Facebook post apologized to his fans and people who had been affected by the prank.

According to him, he orchestrated the shooting prank alone.

He made reference to a prophecy that was made by Bishop Stephen Kwesi Appiah of New Life Kingdom Chapel that he would be shot dead on October 18, 2021.

Meanwhile, Bishop Stephen Kwesi Appiah of New Life Kingdom Chapel who has also been arrested in connection with the fake gunshot claim remains in police custody after court refused to grant him bail on Wednesday.

He has also been charged with causing fear and panic

Meet Jessica Opare saforo, the Ghanaian lady behind MTN voiceover [video]

Published

on

Ghanaian media personality, Jessica Opare Saforo has been uncovered and linked to the famous MTN customer care voice known by telco operators as Internal Voice Recording or simply IVR.

If you are MTN service provider, you would surely be familiar with the voice that always says “the number you have dialed, can not be reached at moment, the mobile equipment is either switched off or out of coverage area ” or “You have one minute remaining” and more.

I could remember my granny would say “what type of woman is this, she doesn’t sleep even at night.” Whenever he says something like this, my siblings and I would laugh at him because we knew there is something he doesn’t know about the voice of the woman.

My grandmother believes that the woman speaks anytime someone makes a phone call, oblivious of the fact that the voice has been recorded in an interactive voice response system by MTN. So who is the woman behind the sweet voice that MTN customers are used to?

I’m pretty sure that many don’t also know that it’s the actual voice of a lady, as others believed it to be the voice of a machine or a white woman. But no, it’s the voice of a Ghanaian woman.

Her name is Jessica Opare Saforo, a professional voice-over artist, radio & television show host, YouTuber, fitness enthusiast and the programmes director of Citi FM and Citi TV.

Are you wondering about Jessica Opare-Saforo family? Jessica was born on April 29, 1981, and is 40 years old as of 2021. The radio personality’s father was in the Ghanaian military while her mother was a teacher.

She has three older siblings, a brother, and two sisters. Probably the most known today is Alfred Opare-Saforo that Jessica speaks highly of.

Yes! Jessica is the lady who is behind the MTN customer care voice you hear anytime you are making a phone call.
