The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, left Ghana on Sunday, 31 st October 2021, to lead Ghana’s delegation to the World Leaders’ Summit of the United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference (COP 26), being held from 31st October to 3rd November, 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland.
The COP26 Summit, which will be one of the largest gatherings of world leaders, will bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
President will deliver a statement on Ghana’s position on Climate Change, as well as measures put in place to combat the threat it poses. He will also deliver three (3) separate statements on efforts Ghana is making to protects her forests and ocean, and participate in the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Summit, being held on the sidelines of COP 26.
Whilst in Glasgow, President Akufo-Addo will hold bilateral meetings with H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya; H.E. Mr. Jonas Gahr Støre, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway; Hon. Robert Abela, Prime Minister of the Republic of Malta; Rt. Hon. Elizabeth Truss, MP, British Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs; and Mr. Raphael Mariano Grossi, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The President was accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey; the Minister for Energy, Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, MP; the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, MP; the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, MP; and officials of the Presidency and Foreign Ministry.
The President will return to Ghana on Thursday, 4 th November 2021, and in his absence, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, shall, in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution, act in his stead.
Bagbin suffers cancer seeks treatment in Dubai
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, is battling with cancer and is, therefore, embarking on a trip to the United Arab Emirates to seek medical attention.
Sources close to health authorities in Dubai tell www.myabclive.com that the Speaker is “likely to undergo chemotherapy treatment ” before he returns to Ghana.
In a letter cited by MyAbclive.com written by the Parliamentary Service to the Head of Mission, Ghana Embassy, UAE and the Consular-General in Dubai, details of the Speaker’s trip have been given.
The letter, amongst other things, details the following;
“I have been directed by the Clerk to Parliament to inform you about the arrival of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, in Dubai to undergo a medical review”.
The speaker is traveling with his wife and another relative.
The statement said that the Speaker will be accompanied by the following: Alice Adjua Yornas, his wife, Dr. Prince Kofi Pambo, head of medical at Parliament house, Patience Bagbin, speaker’s secretariat and Justice Norvor, his aide.
It added that Mr. Speaker and his delegation will depart Accra on Saturday, 27 November 2021 at 18.50 hours and arrive in Dubai at 6.20 hours on flight EK788 the next day.
“They will depart Dubai on Tuesday, 14 December 2021 at 7.35 hours and arrive in Accra the same day at 12.05 hours on flight EK787″.
The statement added that “It would be appreciated if arrangements are made for Mr. Speaker and his delegation to be met on arrival and due courtesies extended to them”.
The letter was signed by Sheba Nana Osei Afriyie, Head, Parliamentary Relations and Protocol.
Bagbin to undergo medical review in Dubai a day after 2022 budget ‘rejection’
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, is scheduled to travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday, November 27 “to undergo a medical review”.
A fax message sighted by 3news.com lists the wife of the Speaker, Mrs Alice Adjua Yornas, Head of the Parliamentary Clinic Dr Prince Pambo, and his Special Aide, Justice Norvor, as part of his delegation.
The fax to the Head of Mission of the Ghana Embassy in UAE said: “Mr Speaker and his delegation will depart Accra on Saturday, 27th November 2021 at 18.50 hours and arrive in Dubai at 6.20 hours on flight EK788 the next day.”
This comes a day after Speaker Bagbin ruled on a motion filed by the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, on the 2022 budget statement.
Already, the Majority Caucus, whose members walked out a few moments prior to the ruling, is accusing Mr Bagbin of “mischief” in presiding over the exercise.
They have since declared their intention to have the “illegality” reversed.
Prempeh College wins 2021 #NSMQ
Prempeh College has won the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) to bring their as champions to five.
They won with 53 points as against 49 by the Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC.)
Keta came third with 30 points.
KETASCO earned Ghc3000 from Absa Bank as bronze winners.
PRESEC did very well and was close but it was not their year.
The Quiz Mistress congratulated them as she announced their prize as Ghc4900 from Absa Bank.
Declaring Prempeh College as champions, the Quiz Mistress said they go away with Ghc5300
That is not all, they also got the Prudential Bank NSMQ star and Ghc10,000 as the highest scorer from AirtelTigo.
