Three arrested at Asokore Mampong for possessing copy of voters register

Three persons have been picked up by police at Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti Region after a copy of the voters register was discovered in their possession during the ongoing District Assembly and Unit Committee Elections.

The arrest was made at the Galilee Church B polling Station in the Sawaba – Adenyase Electoral area.

The three have been taken to the Asokore Mampong Police station for interrogation.

An agent of one the aspirants witnessed the incident recalled to Citi News that the district police commander was on his rounds when “he realised there was a booklet that contained the list of the voters. Two students were holding it.”

“They were just holding it making sure that anybody who comes, they will try to convince the person to vote for their aspirant and that is Alhaji Anyaas,” he narrated.

“They asked them and they couldn’t identify and clarify themselves so whilst they were sending them one man [who was also arrested] also came saying he gave them that job,” the witness added.

KNUST SHS Students Protest After Death of Colleague

Some students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Senior High School (KNUST SHS) on Tuesday evening held a protest against the school authorities following the death of a student.

According to the students, one of their colleagues who had an ulcer and was ill was not attended to adequately by the school authorities.

They believe the authorities feared he had contracted the novel coronavirus and as a result, did not attend to him for hours leading to his death.

The students then started demonstrating to register their displeasure with the school authorities.

During the protest, they vandalised the headmistress’ car.

It took the intervention of police personnel who were deployed to the school to help maintain calm.

One of the students recounted that “the senior housemaster told his [the deceased boy’s] friends to leave him alone. He told them to sanitise their hands and asked them why they were holding the boy and gave them a plot to weed [as punishment].”

The students also accused the headmistress of also not handling the situation with any urgency.

“The headmistress herself came to stand in front of this boy and the boy was rolling on the floor for more than four hours. They couldn’t call any car to take him to the hospital.”

Authorities of the school declined to speak to Citi News following the death.

A team of police personnel have been stationed on the school’s premises to maintain calm.
