President Nana Akufo-Addo has clarified the deployment of security personnel’s across the country.
According to him, the deployments are not intended to disenfranchise Ghanaian voters.
Rather, he said, they are intended to protect Ghana’s borders from illegal entries especially from militants from the neighbouring countries trying to enter Ghana illegally.
He said 207 soldiers have been deployed in Upper West, 110 soldiers in Northern Region, 102 in North East, 64 in Bono 14 in Western Region, 98 in Volta Region and 78 in Oti, among others.
The President indicated that the deployments became necessary following the closures of Ghana’s borders due to coronavirus and attempts by travellers to enter the country illegally while the borders remain closed.
“No disenfranchisement of voters is contemplated by me,” he clarified.
He, therefore, urged eligible Ghanaian voters to register during the voter registration exercise.
He urged “If you do not register now, you cannot vote in December.”
These deployments are not intended to prevent Ghanaians from registering to vote in December 2020, he stressed.
“ I have no interest in disenfranchising any eligible Ghanaian voter from registering in tomorrow’s exercise.”

‘Angry’ Kennedy Agyapong angrily ‘warns’ Kwaku Annan, Net 2 over Bishops expose’
Assin Central Member of Parliament(MP), Kennedy Agyapong has denied reports suggesting that he is ready to launch missiles on some prominent men of God in the country.
There were reports corroborated by host of ‘The Seat’ David Annan that the New Patriotic Party’s maverick Member of Parliament was coming out with an expose that will shake the fabric of the country’s Christiandom.
According to the reports, Kennedy Agyapong who has been on a crusade to destroy Men of God who he deems as fake was set to bring down one of Ghana’s renowned Men of God who was referred to as a Bishop.
But speaking from his hideout where he has been for the past three weeks, the businessman said he has no plans of continuing the exposes for now because it’s time to focus on politics and take on their opponents.
He noted that there is currently a tradition of spreading falsehood in the country which needs to stop.
Mr. Agyapong said he has not been on radio or Television for the past three weeks and is currently thinking about himself so he was shocked to have received calls that there is a story of him in the middle of Duncan Williams and Bishop Charles Agyin Asare.
“Sometimes the NPP I don’t know what is wrong with them. If you get information can’t you ascertain whether it’s true or not? You don’t authenticate your information and you call me to attack me. Why will we do this to ourselves. I’ve been here thinking about myself for the past three weeks. So they cannot even tell that I’ve not spoken on Radio and Television for the past three weeks?”
He sent a word of caution to his staff and especially the host of “The Seat” show calling on him to desist from granting interviews because it’s his [Kennedy Agyapong] image bloggers will use when he the host says anything about their crusade against fake pastors.
Speaking on the appointment of Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang’s appointment as John Mahama’s running mate, he reiterated the stance of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia that the best running mate will not make any difference if the President is incompetent.
Kennedy Agyapong indicated that Jane Naane Opoku-Agyemang will be measured with her performance at the education Ministry as against the performance of Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh and not with Bawumia.
“We will compare Jane Naana to Napo and not Bawumia. We will do that to see her competence as an Education Minister and that of NAPO who has performed creditably well since taking office as the Minister for Education.”
Student killed after clashes at registration centre
One person has been killed in Banda in the Bono Region over a confrontation at a registration centre.
Starr News understands that the scuffle at the registration centre began after some persons associated with the NPP parliamentary candidate for the constituency confronted brother of the MP for the area, Ahmed Ibrahim, over reasons not yet known.
The deceased, according to the MP, was a teacher training graduate who was returning to the area to inform his parent of his completion of studies.
Information available to Star News indicates that shortly after the registration centre incident, the persons involved went to the house of the brother of the MP at Tabie.
The incident reportedly triggered anger among residents of Tabie who mounted roadblocks in an attempt to avenge the attack.
MP for Banda Ahenkro giving Starr News his account of the incident said: “the brother of my opponent who is the NPP parliamentary candidate was arrested with invisible forces and vigilantes with ammunition and guns causing mayhem and disturbances at the registration centre.
“The military cum police cum immigration team who arrested him, released him just 30 minutes after arresting him. So, they brought the exhibit to the police station without the culprits. And this was upon the intervention of the District Chief Executive.
“So, after setting these guys free, they went back to the registration centre and they were all jubilating that they are in power and will teach we the NDC where the power lies.”
He went on “I thought it was a joke. The following day, yesterday, the parliamentary candidate together with his brother who was arrested and acquitted went to my house attacked my brother in the full glare of the police, beat him to the point that they thought he was dead and they left him there. Then he was sent to the hospital and is receiving treatment.”
“After that, the community people organised in the area and said that car which came to do this should not pass there again, and that orchestrated the mounting of barriers in other communities. As I’m talking now there is a situation of lawlessness,” he indicated.
He, however, noted that the deceased was a “student from the Eastern region. A training college student who had just completed. So, he was on his way from the school to the community to tell his parents he had completed school.”
“They are the same people who attacked my home,” he alleged.
Police PRO for Bono region Chief Inspector Augustine Oppong as at the time he spoke on the Midday News today said he cannot confirm the death until investigations are over.
He noted that some policemen have sustained injuries from the clashes.
