President Akufo-Addo Addresses Ghanaians Tonight, Expect These

The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is scheduled to once again knock at the doors of Ghanaians tonight. This will be his eighteenth (18) address tot he nation ever since the novel coronavirus hit the country. From matters of health, education, elections to security, the President had explored this bi-weekly interaction to update the nation on what actions his government had taken to address issues that transpired over the period.

Tonight as confirmed on his official Facebook page, President Akufo Addo will deliver his message at 8pm GMT. But then, some happenings as it could be argued have necessitated this interaction. For the past month the country’s case count has fallen dramatically, and government had continued to ease the restrictions imposed on some gatherings and business. Tonight expect these two major updates.

1. Murder of the Member of Parliament for Mfantsiman

Its more than a week now since Ekow Hayford suffered his untimely death at the hands of some criminals. The week celebration had already expired and the only communication that came from the presidency was an assurance to get the perpetrators to book. True to his word, the Police had made an arrest of five key suspects to the case. Tonight, President Nana Addo is likely to share some perspectives and update on this subject. Ghanaian surely won’t wish this matter ends up like the JB Danquah issue.

2. National Security and Assurance of Public Safety For Election 2020

It’s 50 days into the election and recent happenings have caused some Ghanaians fearing for their lives. As we speak the Volta Region is under constant patrol and surveillance due to threats of terrorism from the Western Tongoland Restoration Front. A recent video purported to be a message from their Command spoke of a troop of 4000 which are being prepared for invasion in the areas to cause mayhem. The opposition National Democratic Congress and all other parties have all condemned this act. Tonight it’s expected of the President to shed some light on how it’s carried it’s investigation into the matter and how it intends to out an end to this terrorism so Ghanaians can be convinced of a safe environment to operate.

There are more but do expect these plus the upcoming voter transfer exercise to be carried out by the Electoral Commission this week.

Every Ghanaian Will Have To Pay GH¢10,000 To Settle Debt Incurred By Akufo-Addo – Sammy Gyamfi

Sammy Gyamfi, the Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said that every Ghanaian will have to pay GH¢10,000 to settle the debt accrued by the Akufo-Addo Administration.

At the NDC’s weekly press briefing on Wednesday, he asked electorates to “ignore government’s deceptive semantics about Ghana’s catastrophic debt position.”

According to him, the NDC would expose all of the lies of the Akufo-Addo administration and set the record straight, including currently indebting Ghanaians.

He also noted that the constant and never-ending borrowing of funds by the government had increased the national debt per person ratio.

“Per our current total public debt of ¢258.8 billion as at June 2020…every Ghanaian in Ghana today is indebted to the tune of about ¢10,000,” he stated.

“President Akufo-Addo has added more debt; a whopping ¢138 billion and still counting to Ghana’s public debt in only three and half years, far more than any government has done in the history of this country, and far more than all successive governments since independence,” Mr Gyamfi said.

He also added that even with the Heavily Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) status in 2001, the debt-to-GDP ratio of 61% cannot be compared to the current debt ratio held by the country.

“Indeed, our current debt position is worse than where we were when we joined the HIPC debt relief program in the year 2001, at which time our debt to GDP ratio stood at 61%.

“As a matter of fact, our debt position this year is the worst ever in the history of our Fourth republican democracy,” he further added.
