The Electoral Commission (EC) has warned, ahead of the election, that anyone who is seen taking a photo (or photos) of their ballot can be arrested.

This announcement comes on the back of the videos and photos that were flying left-right centre during the special voting exercise which took place yesterday were security personnel, media practitioners and other essential workers voted ahead of time.

In one of these videos, a military man is heard announcing his reasons for voting against John Mahama of the NDC where he said it would be an unwise decision on his part to vote of the opposition party.

Although the security has taken steps to arrest and interdict some of these persons, the EC is reiterating that on December 7, a voter will be arrested if he or she takes photos or videos of the ballot.

“If you finish and you tell people who you voted for, that is fine but it is an offence for you to take photos of it and be showing it to people. That breaches the secrecy of the ballot. In the view of the law you can be arrested,” The Director of Electoral Services at the Commission, Dr Serebour Quaicoe said in an interview with Citi FM.
