Don’t compare your ‘useless government’ to Nkrumah’s – Mahama to Akufo-Addo

Published

on

Former President John Mahama has fired salvos at president Akufo-Addo, describing his administration as “useless”.

Speaking at a rally at Ashaiman, Mr. Mahama in the Twi dialect said the Akufo-Addo’s administration is only good at “propaganda” to project its achievements.

“All they do is propaganda. They keep saying ‘we have achieved every promise we made. We are the best government since independence, not even Nkrumah can match up to us’, this useless government and you compare yourself to Nkrumah?” the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer stated.

Mahama says his party has what it takes to clean up the “mess and rot created” by the Akufo-Addo administration.

Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Adjei Kojo in the Tema West constituency, as part of his five-day campaign tour of the Greater Accra Region, Mr Mahama said the NDC is very much aware of the mess that has been created by the Akufo-Addo administration since assuming office in January 2017.

He was surprised at how the Akufo-Addo regime ended up creating its mess, given that it inherited a sound economy from the Mahama administration.

“In 2016, I passed the ESLA which is the Energy Sector Levy Act and that act alone in 2017 brought in GHC3 billion. And who inherited that money? President Akufo-Addo inherited that money. I set up the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund and I put seed money of $270 million and I left it to President Akufo-Addo. where is that money? When Covid happened, but for the Stabilisation Fund that was set up in my time, the 1.2 billion that they had taken from the Covid fund to provide food for the people, to provide PPEs for people and stimulus packages for people, if I hadn’t set up that Fund, we wouldn’t have gotten that 1.2 billion”, he said.

Mr Mahama said his government also left behind more than $300 million in the Sinking Fund, adding all of these are verifiable. “How much is he going to leave for President Mahama in 2021?, he asked.

“I will implement Special Prosecutors report on the “Agyapa deal” if elected on December 7th” – John Mahama

The flagbearer and Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says if he is elected in the upcoming 2020 general elections he will implement recommendations of the special prosecutor on the controversial Agyapa Royalties deal.

He claim the only thing that can save the people involved in this corruption scandal if they are found guilty by the reports of the special prosecutor is for them to return the money before the NDC is sworn into the office on January 7th 2021.

He made this known on Saturday when addressing the NDC supporters at Bosomkyekye in the Mampong constituency as part of his tour in the Ashanti region.

“They are trying to offload Ghana’s mining royalties through a shady deal called Agyapa and when we complained, they decided to hold on. But now what we are being told is that, the President has directed that the deal be taken back to Parliament and I know they will not succeed. Because the NDC is going to win this election and immediately after the Victory, those people who have looted the money from Agyapa should quickly return our money”

“Otherwise, we will work with the recommendation of the special prosecutor” He lastly warned

“Your QR Code Is Not The First In Ghana, You Lied” – Sammy Gyamfi Exposes Bawumia

Published

Just a day after Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia launched a universal quick response code (QR Code) payment system citing it as the first of its kind in Africa, NDC national communications officer, Sammy Gyamfi has debunked it with evidence stating it’s not the first time Ghana is experiencing such thing.

Vice President Bawumia speaking at the launch said, “Today is a historic day because we are solving a major problem here in Ghana. It is also historic because Ghana will be the first country in Africa to launch a Quick Response (QR) code payment system.”

“Not only are we the first country in Africa, but we are also, as far as I am aware, the third country in the world to launch a Quick Response Code after Singapore and India.”

NDC Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi on Good Evening Ghana on Accra-based Metro TV responding to the Vice President’s statement said, “This QR Code payment system that we are talking about was introduced by Ecobank and implemented in 2016/2017 so it not a new thing.”

It is reported on BusinessGhana in 2017 that “Ecobank Ghana launched a Masterpass QR, a smart merchant solution that accepts payments for goods and services from the mobile phone, providing micro, small and medium enterprises the opportunity to move from cash to digital payments.”
