National Communication Officer for the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has joined the few who are in disagreement to the President’s address yesterday pertaining to the lifting of the partial lockdown.
The lifting of the partial lockdown by President Akufo-Addo, at a time the country is witnessing astronomical increases in positive COVID-19 cases, particularly horizontal infections, is totally premature and lacks scientific basis.
It is clearly a politically-motivated decision, calculated to allow the EC the space to undertake its entrenched and illogical determination to compile a new voters’ register for the 2020 general elections and nothing more.
Either than that, why will President Akufo-Addo impose a partial lockdown with the objective of halting the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, at a time we had only recorded 137 cases across just four (4) regions of the country and with 5 deaths, but turn around to lift the partial lockdown, at a time our positive case count has galloped to 1,042, across ten (10) regions and with nine (9) deaths?
Countries with far lower cases have not lifted or relaxed their lockdown restrictions. Yet, we who are currently the country with the highest COVID-19 cases in West Africa, have against expert advice, lifted our partial lockdown.
Doesn’t this defy science and commonsense?
President Akufo-Addo’s decision to lift the lockdown at this crucial time, is a reckless political gamble that portends great danger for this nation. Ghanaians must never forgive him if this unimaginable decision exacerbates our COVID-19 situation. The blame for any fatality that is occasioned by this reckless decision must lie squarely with the President.
What the President has essentially done, is to place political expediency ahead of Public safety. And what that shows, is that human lives don’t matter to President Akufo-Addo.
May God be our help.

Credit Mahama for Tema Motorway Interchange, it’s his Brainchild – Sammy Gyamfi to Nana Addo
The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has asked the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to give credit to former President John Dramani Mahama for his investments in the road sector.
Sammy Gyamfi made the remark on the back of the commissioning of the Tema Motorway Interchange project by Akufo-Addo today, Friday, June 5, 2020.
Sammy Gyamfi, in a tweet, insisted that the Tema Motorway Interchange is the brainchild of John Mahama and must be credited as such.
“President Akufo-Addo must learn to give credit where credit is due. Enough of the plagiarisation of Mahama projects. The Tema Motorway Interchange remains the brainchild of the Visionary John Dramani Mahama,” he argued in the tweet.
While commissioning the project, President Akufo-Addo said former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) claims of delivering unprecedented infrastructure never existed in reality but only in their Green Book.
“We made a pledge to the Ghanaian people to expand and improve the road network while closing the missing links in the network. We had to make this pledge because we know that the so-called unprecedented infrastructure development of the Mahama administration was fantasy; existing in the Green Book and not on the ground.”
Credit Mahama for new Tema motorway interchange – Agbodza
The Ranking Member on the Roads and Transport Committee of Parliament, Kwame Agbodza, had prior to the commissioning asked President Akufo-Addo to acknowledge former President John Mahama for the newly constructed Tema Motorway Interchange.
In an article, the Adaklu Member of Parliament described as shameful, the “posture the President is seeking to exhibit with plans to take credit for the Tema Interchange Project.”
According to Agbodza, the project in question was started by Mr. Mahama during his time in office.
“Sadly, President Akufo-Addo has consistently taken credit for strategic projects initiated by his predecessors and like the proverbial ostrich, turn round to accuse his ‘benefactor’ of incompetence, and simply plunging Ghana into an abyss. I cite the Pokuase, Obetsebi Lamptey Interchanges, Kotoka Terminal 3, and Phase II of the Kumasi Airport expansion project as examples,” the article read.
NPP acclaims Akufo-Addo for 2020 election
The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has acclaimed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as its presidential candidate for 2020 elections.
NPP made this known in a statement issued by its General Secretary, John Boadu.
It says “the Party has also resolved to acclaim the sole candidate who had filed his nomination to contest in the Presidential Primaries, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as the Party’s 2020 Presidential Candidate.” Primaries
Also, the party announced that it has scheduled June 20, 2020, to hold its parliamentary primaries in the 168 Constituencies where the Party has sitting MPs to elect its parliamentary candidates for the 2020 General Elections.
“These critical decisions were taken by the party at a National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council meetings jointly held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra,” it indicated.
“The date for the acclamation of the Presidential Candidate and his Running Mate will soon be communicated to the general public. Equally, the Party will soon issue guidelines for the conduct of the Parliamentary Primaries,” it added.

Comparing Akufo-Addo to Mahama is like comparing Togo to USA – Sammy Gyamfi
The National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has taken a swipe at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo saying there is no way the ruling government can be compared to the previous administration led by former President John Dramani Mahama.
Sammy Gyamfi speaking in an interview on Neat FM’s ‘Me Man Nti’ programme, Monday said: “Comparing Akufo-Addo to Mahama is like comparing Togo to the United States of America”.
According to him, “if you look at the achievements of former President Mahama between 2012 and 2016, it cannot be compared to that of President Akufo-Addo and Bawumia.
Even though the former President may not have been perfect, Sammy Gyamfi says he can be likened to New York while Akufo-Addo to Togo.
“When you talk of roads, schools, hospitals, and many others; I’m not sure this government comes anywhere near to John Mahama and I know Ghanaians have missed him and inasmuch as he is not perfect and somethings may not have been done well; overall Ghanaians will agree that if President Mahama is New York, Akufo-Addo and Bawumia is Togo”.
