What Have You Used Your Borrowed Money For? – Mahama Queries Prez Akufo-Addo

Published

on

Former President and the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has questioned the spending attitude of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to him, during his administration, Ghana’s financial purse was well managed but the Akufo-Addo government can’t give a good account of what they use the State’s money for.

Mr. Mahama, delivering a speech at a Town Hall meeting at Cape Coast in the Central Region, recounted how his government utilized the national revenue saying they constructed Elmina Fish Processing Plant, Kokokraba Market, Komenda Sugar Factory, Elmina bridge, Kwame Nkrumah interchange among others.

He stated that his government incurred a debt of Ghc 56 billion but President Akufo-Addo, in his first term, has recorded a whopping 140 billion debt stock.

“What has he used the 140 billion his government has borrowed for?

“They have done nothing with the money, yet they are asking for four more. Is it four more to add more debts to the already existing debts?” Mr Mahama questioned.

NPP Promises ‘One Youth, One Rent’ If Reelected for A 2nd Term

Published

on

The ruling NPP government has promised the youth of Ghana a rental assistance scheme if re-elected into office which I’m calling the ‘One Youth, One Rent’ policy.

According to NPP Communication Team member Nana Akomea, the scheme would pay rent advance for young people to help them deal with the huge problem of finding huge sums of money to pay rent.

With elections just around the corner, the NPP has remembered the rent problem and are promising to solve it if reelected.

According to Akomea, they are setting up an agency – National Rental Assistance Scheme – to provide low-interest loans to young people so they can get the money needed to rent and pay it back bit by bit.

“Government will in effect pay the rent Advance for you, and you pay the rent monthly to the scheme.

“In effect then, the NPP government in its next term will eliminate the big problem of rent advance facing the youth and indeed many other Ghanaians,” Akomea said.

In much of the world, rent is a utility just like electricity and water and people therefore pay their rent on a monthly basis.

In Ghana however, the people have zero governmental protections and you’re forced to pay your rent on a two-year basis.

That means young people have to find gargantuan sums of money to pay for their often two-year rent advance.

This is a big problem for many young people who often don’t have that much income, not to talk of raising that gargantuan sums.

The NPP is therefore counting on it as an issue which can help them galvanise the youth vote.

That’s if anyone would believe their claims – they’ve had four years to do this and they’ve done literally nothing but elections are around the corner and voila – they have all the solutions.

Reelect them and see them forget this easily until the next election comes around.

“After borrowing $9billion, NPP can only boast of free SHS” – John Dramani Mahama

Published

on

The former President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama says the only thing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by President Nana Akufo Addo Dankwa Addo, can boast of is Free SHS after borrowing $9 billion from the Capital Market

According to John Mahama during an interview on TV XYZ, his administration left office with a rich economy for the NPP to take advantage in developing the country.

However, he said President Akufo-Addo and the NPP government has failed Ghanaians, and on top of that, accumulated huge debt with their gargantuan borrowing.

He added that, at the time he was leaving office he had completed two more oil fields. That virtually tripled revenue from oil but what did they do with the money.

With the kind of resources we left them, I’m surprised and shocked at his very abysmal performance. We managed this economy with one oil field which is the jubilee field. At the time we were leaving office we had completed two more oil fields. That virtually tripled revenue from oil

With that kind of extra revenue, one could just imagine what they could have done in terms of transforming the economy. But they’ve not been able to, I mean you can see everywhere there is nothing to show for it. Their only claim to fame is Free SHS and so the Free SHS is been funded with revenue from oil but aside from that there is nothing to show for it

Let’s Keep Akufo-Addo At The 1st Position – First Lady Tells Voters

Published

on

First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has rallied voters in the Trobu constituency in the Greater Accra Region behind the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging them to retain President Akufo-Addo as the first gentleman of the country.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo while addressing the electorates during a working visit to the constituency, recounted how the electorates voted massively for the NPP in the last elections, adding that December 7 presented another opportunity for them to show their support to the good work the government is doing.

“Four years ago, I came here to seek your votes for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and your parliamentary candidate, Moses Anim and you did just that so, I am here to thank you for your votes and again ask that you keep the NPP in power in the December 7 elections,” she said.

The First Lady said the NPP government had kept its promises to the people of Ghana by introducing policies and programmes that were greatly impacting the lives of Ghanaians.

“You know the things we are doing all over the country, Free SHS for our children to get educated and in the north for instance, the one village one dam has helped the farmers and created more jobs for the youth, one constituency, one ambulance has also been implemented to enhance emergency healthcare, these are all things the president said he would do when elected and he has indeed done them,” she added.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo therefore urged the people to go all out on December 7 and vote for the NPP barring any fear of violence or apathy as every vote was important.

“President Akufo-Addo is at the number one position so it is very easy for us to identify and vote for him so we can continue to move forward as a country,” she stated.

The First Lady’s visit took her to the Muus Timber Market, the Ofankor and the Pokuase Markets where she interacted with the traders and shared the good news of the NPP government.

She also joined the NPP MP for Trobu, Moses Anim, to inspect an on-going three-storey project at the Amamorley Health Centre being undertaken by his share of the MPs Common Fund and made some donation of hospital consumables to the facility.

Chairman of Muus Timber Market traders, Kofi Asante, expressed joy at the First Lady’s visit and asked that she sends their gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for his assistance after the fire outbreak that occurred at the market in December 2015.

He however appealed to the First Lady to intervene in what he termed as harassment by officers of the forestry commission at the various barriers when hauling wood to the Muus Timber Market.

The Pokuase Market Queen, Naa Ayikai Otoo who was visibly elated about the First Lady’s visit said the many social intervention policies implemented by the Akufo-Addo led government have significantly mitigated their economic challenges and created employment for their spouses and children.

While assuring the First Lady of their votes, Naa Ayikai Otoo prayed for assistance in accessing the Covid-19 stimulus package for small scale businesses.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo on her part assured the traders their concerns will be given the needed attention.

Addressing traditional leaders at the Ofankor MA School Park, the First Lady thanked the traditional leaders of Trobu for supporting President Akufo-Addo in his service to the country.

She said though the Akufo-Addo led administration has achieved so much in less than four years it was vital to retain the NPP in office so the gains attained so far can be sustained.

The MP for Trobu Constituency, Moses Anim, assured his constituents of the NPP’s readiness to continue with their good works of bringing economic and social development to the area.

“Look out for the first position on the ballot paper which will be occupied by President Akufo-Addo and the NPP’s parliamentary candidate and vote for them accordingly,” he said.
