In-form Red Devils climb up to 7th but McTominay limps off.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were to the fore once again as Manchester United saw off Brighton and Hove Albion 3-1 at Old Trafford to move back into the top half of the Premier League table.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men impressed in Thursday’s 3-0 Europa League victory over Partizan Belgrade, which Martial and Rashford both scored in, and the forwards both played crucial roles again as a resilient Brighton were dispatched fairly comfortably.

United looked as though they were going to cruise to victory during the early exchanges, as they found themselves 2-0 up thanks to a couple of fortuitous goals from Andreas Pereira and Davy Propper, who beat his own goalkeeper.

on

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has authorised the Ministry of Youth and Sports to release an amount of GHS900,000.00 as first tranche of payment to support 18 premier league clubs to offset some of their expenses in this era of COVID-19 pandemic.

Each club is to receive an amount of GHS50,000.

This has become necessary due to the directive by the government to all premier league matches to be played behind closed doors to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“Other clubs such as Division one, National Women’s League, CAF Champion’s League Representative and CAF Confederation Cup Representative will also receive some financial support from the government in due course,” a statement released by the sports ministry stated.

Thomas Partey Resumes Training Ahead Of Tottenham Clash

Published

on

Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta has refused to rule out the possibility of Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey being involved over the weekend against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspurs.

Partey suffered a thigh injury during Arsenal loss to Aston Villa and has resumed training ahead of the north London derby. Since the injury, the former Atletico Madrid man has missed the last three matches for the Gunners in all competitions but is closing in on a return ahead of Sunday’s tie.

He’s been training separately in the last week or so and we have to scan him again to see how he’s feeling. He’s a player that is so willing, that is pushing us every day and he wants to do it.

At the same time, we have to protect him and make sure that when he gets back in the team, he is ready to do that and to whatever extent of minutes we can use him, so it’s going to be crucial with the moment he starts to train with the team to see how he is feeling and how he is evolving day-to-day.

We don’t know again, he is really pushing every day and he’s trying to get around the doctor and the physios but he hasn’t trained with the team yet so let’s see this week if he can get a session or two and then assess him, we need to scan him again so we can see the extent of the injury and how it’s healed. I know if it’s up to Thomas then he wants to play tomorrow. We have to see medically that he is safe to participate at all.

Thomas Teye Partey is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Premier League club Arsenal and is the vice-captain of the Ghana national team.

Messi slapped with £540 fine for Diego Maradona shirt celebration

Published

Lionel Messi has been hit with a £540 fine for his tribute to Diego Maradona after the legend’s death.

The Barcelona superstar started his career at Newell’s Old Boys and unveiled their shirt in tribute to his fellow Argentine – who also played thereafter scoring in Sunday’s 4-0 win against Osasuna.

The goal had striking similarities to a goal scored by Maradona on his Newell’s debut 27 years ago.

He picked up the ball outside of the box, beat two defenders then fired a shot into the far corner of the net.

The celebration forced referee Mateu Lahoz to book Messi for removing his Barca shirt, in line with the Spanish FA’s rules.

It has now been confirmed that the 33-year-old has now been sanctioned.

The forward, who earns over £60m-a-year, should have to cough up a £540 fine.

And Barcelona have also been hit with a fine of £316 over the incident – although they plan to appeal.

The rule which imposes a fine for celebrations like Messi’s is not exclusive to the Spanish league, it is also applied by FIFA.

On FIFA’s official website, it states: “The IFAB, the body responsible for the Laws of the Game, decided to add a detail to Law 12 relating to ‘Fouls and Misconduct’, stating: “A player who removes his jersey after scoring a goalwill be cautioned for unsporting behaviour.”
