Solskjaer: I could have changed 11 players at half-time apart from De Gea.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brushed off the suggestion Manchester United’s tactical set-up was the root of their problems in the madcap 3-3 draw with Sheffield United.

“We had to go for it in the second-half,” Solskjaer explained. “We put another attacker on, and I could have changed XI players at half-time, that’s so simple really. Apart from the keeper, because David kept us in it and he would have saved the last one, but for a slight deflection off Harry [Maguire]’s thigh. But [Jones’ substitution] was a tactical thing.

“Obviously we’re light in midfield because Scotty’s away, we could have started Jonah in there because he’s played there for England, but we decided we’ve played well in a back three this season; Chelsea away, Liverpool at home.”

Solskjaer refused to accept United’s first-half strife was down to his tactical switch and he put their shortcomings down to a lack of desire. “It wasn’t about tactics today, it was about the desire first-half, getting on the ball, tackling, winning challenges, sometimes tactics are just thrown out of the window and today it was all about the desire first-half.

“It was about desire we lacked in the first-half and they had in the first-half, the challenges. In football, you’ve got to earn the right to win the game and we didn’t have any right to win the game after 70 minutes.

“The boys are young and it’s not a lack of desire in the word desire, it’s maybe that confidence in themselves. Andreas [Pereira] and Fred in midfield have never played together before, but the way we came out after [Sheffield United] scored the second was excellent.

“I don’t doubt [the players] wanting to win but sometimes young players don’t know how to win challenges like this and we must have learnt a lot today.”

Chelsea Draw With West Brom After Conceding 3 Goals In First Half

Chelsea produced an impressive second half performance to avoid defeat against West Brom in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Blues came back from three goals down to draw 3-3 away from home.

In a poor first half, Chelsea conceded three goals to the newly-promoted side. One of the goals conceded was as a result of a Thiago Silva mistake.

The Brazilian, who joined Chelsea from PSG this season, was making his debut Premier League appearance.

However, academy graduates, Mason Mount, Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham scored in the second half to rescue a point for Chelsea.

They have recorded a win, a draw and a loss in their first three league games this season.
